  What did you think about high school English?

  I loved high school English class, but once I got to college, I learned how limited it was. Besides the fact that we didn’t read a book by an Appalachian author in an East TN high school (different discussion), we used New Criticism as the only analytical lens.

  Learning about reader-response criticism, in particular, was eye-opening for me as a writer. And many of the other theories give works deeper meaning by allowing room for cultural context.

  Did y’all have similar experiences?
